Student 1: Ms. Ferenchak, when we grow up can we look you up on Facebook?
Me: Sure, when you're an adult.
Student 2: Don't talk about her when she is old!  That is rude!

Teacher Appreciation Week Letters

It's Teacher Appreciation Week.  I just want to take a second and say how incredibly happy I am to have the most wonderful group of students.  They really make me feel like I am making a difference in their lives.  This week, our principal asked the students to write a letter to her explaining how and why they appreciate their teachers.  I'm not going to lie, I teared up reading some of the letters that my students wrote.  I want to share a few.....

Ms. Ferenchak is a winsome teacher.  I used to be a dummy before she helped me.  She encourages me every day.  If she would have not helped me, I would have horrible grades.  I am so very thankful and blessed with an awesome teacher.

Ms. Ferenchak is the best because she is nice and patient.  She doesn't only teach us school stuff, she also teaches us to work together.  Now I get along with everyone.  She deserves the best!

I appreciate my teacher because when my grades were bad she gave me extra help.  She stopped me grom giving up on myself.  I couldn't think of a better teacher for me to have.  Because of her my grades went from Fs and Ds to As and Bs (and sometimes Cs.)  The point is she deserves a prize.  When I told her I needed help with division, she asked Mr. Dominguez if there was any room for me in Title 1.  So now I am good at doing division.
PS. She is always patient with us.

I think Ms. Ferenchak is the best teacher because she helps me when I need her to help.  And she is always there for me.  She taught me about decimals and division.  I hope that when I move schools she will be alright.

(aw, I hope that when I move schools, you'll be alright too!)

I think my teacher is the best because we learn about everything.  She makes things easy.  She never gets mad.  She is always nice.  We always have fun!

I really appreciate this teacher because she is always helping our class learn in a fun way!  If I don't get something she teaches me until I get it.  I am also grateful to have such a nice teacher that cares for our education.  I am more than prepared to go to fifth grade!  GO MS. FERENCHAK!  Not only is she great, she's incredible!  At the moment she first saw me, I knew she was glad for us to go ABOVE AND BEYOND!

How Old Are You?

As told by Kristal Gardner:

6th grade class:
Girl 1: How old are you?
Me: Guess.
Girl 1: 29
Me: No. You know what digits are, right?
Group: Yeah.
Me: If you add the two digits of my age, it equals 8.
Girl 2: 35
Me: Yes.
Girl 2: I was going to say 53 but then I thought, no, she's not that old.
Boy: You are 35?
Me: Yes. I was way off. I thought you were 25.
Girl 2: You're as old. . . You are the same age as my mom.
Me: (thinking to myself) Good save.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Student 1 (after looking at school calendar): Ms. Ferenchak, next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. What do we have to do for you?
Me: Oh you know, buy me a new car, pay for a vacation to Hawaii, stuff like that.
Student 1 (with head bob and hand on hip): Ms. Ferenchak, be real. We can't even get that stuff for ourselves.

Me thinking to myself (in Dumb and Dumber voice): So you're saying there's no chance? :(

Almost Everyone

A couple students came in during lunch to help me clean today. This is the conversation that happened.

Student 1: Ms. Ferenchak? How many people are going to flunk in our class?
Me: I can't tell you that! It's private.
Student 1: Can you give us a hint?
Me: Okay, the person who is going to flunk is a boy or a girl.
Student 2: That's almost everyone!

haha, almost?

LIVE STRONG

I am wearing my yellow LIVE STRONG bracelet today and one of my students asked me what it was for. I told him it was for cancer awareness. This is the conversation that followed:

Student 1: So that means you have cancer?!
Student 2: NO. Don't you see? She has hair. If she had cancer then she wouldn't have hair!

Carpenters

We were discussing different career types in class today. I asked my kids if they knew what a carpenter was. This was the response I got:

Student 1: Someone who cleans carpets!

Hmmm, very smart thinking, but no ;p
